Workshop Torino

Train the Teachers of VI

From May 23rd to 25th, an exciting and transformative workshop was hosted at the prestigious University of Turin in the Department of Psychology. This three-day intensive training provided a unique opportunity for teachers and educators from special and inclusion schools, who work with students with visual impairments (VI), to enhance their storytelling skills using cutting-edge digital tools like Storybird and Canva.

Throughout the workshop, teachers and educators delved into the world of digital storytelling with the help of innovative platforms like Storybird and Canva. On the first day, May 23rd, participants were introduced to Storybird, a visually captivating and user-friendly platform. They explored its vast library of professionally curated artwork and illustrations, enabling them to create visually stunning digital stories that catered to the unique interests and preferences of their visually impaired students.

On May 24th, the focus shifted to Canva, a versatile graphic design tool that empowers educators to design visually appealing and accessible materials. Teachers learned to customize story covers, visual aids, and infographics using Canva’s pre-designed templates and easy-to-use drag-and-drop features. This practical session allowed them to quickly develop inclusive educational resources tailored to the diverse needs of students with VI.

Participating in the workshop was a game-changer for me as a teacher. The hands-on experience in digital storytelling and creating tactile stories was invaluable. I now feel confident in using technology to develop personalized educational materials for my visually impaired students. The workshop truly opened up new possibilities in inclusive education, and I’m excited to implement what I’ve learned in my classroom.
